Total cars on the road 2014 share my test drive

Total cars on the road 2014

Everyone watches the new car registration data with eagle eyes, this gives an indication to how the motor industry is currently doing in the UK. I think the more interesting numbers are the car ‘parc’ data, namely how many of each model of car is currently on the the road. Thankfully this data is available from the DVLA based on vehicle licensing.

It makes really interesting reading. At the end of December 2014 there were 35.6 million vehicles on the road, 83,1% of these being cars. Did you know 82% of the vehicles on the road are cars, compared to 10.9% vans and only 3.6% motorcycles. Also average new car CO2 emissions have fallen from approx. 180 grams per km in 2001 to approx. 120 in 2014. Also Company cars are 54% of all new car registrations yet only make up 8.6% of all the cars on the road.
